Volleyball Basic Rules
A coin toss determines what team starts the game by a serve. Each team has six players. A player throws the ball into the air and hits the ball so it passes over the net in a way that it will land in the opposing team's court. The opposite team must use no more than three contacts with the ball to return the ball it to the opponent's side of the net.
The 3 contacts are usually 1st of the bump or pass so that the ball's course is aimed towards the player chosen as the setter; 2nd contact is that of the setter so that the ball's course is aimed towards a place where one of the attacking player is located ad can hit the ball, and 3rd contact is by the attacker who spikes which means the player jumps, raising their arm above their head to hit the ball so it will move quickly down to the ground on the other team’s court. The team with possession of the ball that is trying to attack the ball the way it was explained above is said to be on offense.
The team on defense attempts to prevent the attacking player from directing the ball into their court by jumping and reaching above the top of the net to block the attack. If the ball is hit around, above, or through the block, the defensive players arranged in the rest of the court try to control the ball with a dig after which the team can go on offensive.
